CURAC as a Platform for Innovation

The CURAC Conference (German Society for Computer- and Robot-Assisted Surgery) has become one of the central platforms for exchange among clinicians, engineers, and researchers in the field of surgical assistance systems. Each year, experts from medicine, research, and industry come together to discuss the latest developments in robotics, imaging, artificial intelligence, and digital medical technologies. The overarching goal is to make surgical practice safer, more efficient, and more patient-centered through innovation.

Our Project: Sensorized Surgery

At this year’s CURAC Conference, we had the opportunity to present our Carl Zeiss Foundation-funded project “Sensorized Surgery.”
The aim of the project is to significantly improve surgical procedures through the integration of precise sensor technology, AI-driven data analysis, and adaptive assistance systems. While conventional surgical approaches largely depend on the experience and intuition of the surgeon, sensor systems enable the real-time acquisition of intraoperative information and its immediate integration into the surgical workflow.

Feedback at CURAC 2025

The discussions following our presentation clearly demonstrated the strong interest in bridging medical technology, AI, and clinical practice. A key takeaway was the importance of an interdisciplinary approach: only through close collaboration between engineering, computer science, and medicine can innovations such as “Sensorized Surgery” be successfully transferred into clinical practice.
